Organization: PLan: the Planning Action Network Inc.
Location: Darwin / Remote (Flexible)
Project Theme: Power in Numbers
About the Role: PLan has been the community’s planning watchdog in Darwin for over 30 years. From protecting the Ludmilla bush block to advocating for heritage at 4 Lindsay Street, we know that our influence is directly tied to the strength of our community.
We are launching our “Power in Numbers” initiative to significantly scale our reach and ensure the community remains a dominant force in Darwin’s development future. We are seeking a tech-savvy Digital Advocacy Volunteer to help us manage this growth and turn community concern into digital action.
What You Will Do:
- Scale the Network: Help lead the strategy to expand our digital membership base across Darwin.
- Digital Mobilization: Build and launch online petitions and letter-writing campaigns using our advocacy platform (Action Network).
- Content Strategy: Draft compelling Facebook updates and email alerts that translate complex planning applications into clear, actionable stories.
- Bridge the Gap: Use digital tools like QR codes to connect our physical community forums to our growing digital database.
About You:
- You are comfortable with digital tools and quick to learn new advocacy software (training provided).
- You have a knack for clear communication and can summarize key issues for a general audience.
- You are self-motivated and able to work asynchronously (perfect for students or those with flexible schedules).
- You are passionate about Darwin’s environment, heritage, and the power of grassroots democracy.
Why Join Us?
- Gain hands-on experience in NGO management and digital advocacy.
- Work with a legendary Darwin organization at a critical period of expansion.
- A letter of recommendation or LinkedIn endorsement upon successful completion of the internship.
To Apply: Please send a brief expression of interest to nick@planinc.org.au and tell us why you care about Darwin’s future.
