Target: Northern Territory Government, Darwin City Council and other concerned authorities
The issue:
Every day, numerous individuals, including elderly residents, frequent the Stuart Park bus stop 103 located near the KFC in Stuart Park.
This location serves as a vital transit point for many, especially those visiting the nearby medical centre. Regrettably, the bus stop lacks a seat, making it challenging for individuals, particularly the elderly and those with medical conditions, to rest while waiting for their bus.
I have several elderly friends who regularly use this bus stop after their appointments at the medical centre. They often express their struggles about the absence of any seating facility. Given their age and health conditions, standing for extended periods in the Northern Territory’s hot weather is not just uncomfortable but also detrimental to their well-being.
The installation of a simple bench with shade would greatly alleviate the physical discomforts faced by commuters at this stop. According to Public Transport Research, providing seating and shelter at bus stops can significantly improve the public transport experience and increase usage by up to 25%. By making this small yet substantial change, we can ensure a more accessible and comfortable transit environment for everyone.
Please sign this petition to support our community members, ensuring that everyone, regardless of age or health condition, can travel in comfort and with dignity.
