It took me a while to understand the graphics, the people in full pandemic suites were distracting, make sure you open the pdf here SmithStLandscape_-_For_Consultation.pdf to get the overhead view. Driving towards the mall from the roundabout, on the left and right a bike path will be introduced.

It is a widely accepted concept that by narrowing the street, traffic will slow, and the street will be safer for pedestrians. Electric scooters are a new challenge for the city layout, no one really got a say in that as far as we can see.

From Plan’s point of view, narrow streets in the city are good, we would like to see a one-way system be canvassed. So, the bike lane on the road is a preferred over creating the solid barrier, the solid barrier option will never get very far on established city streets so better to get the drivers used to what is coming in the Darwin CBD.

We can’t see why we can’t have trees on both sides of the road, there is a requirement for shade across the city for pedestrians.

So option1 with the trees from option 2, also an additional pedestrian crossing towards the mall so people can avoid crossing the Woolworths entry exit which is too close to Peel Street and the existing Woolworths pedestrian crossing forcing drivers to surge out and lengthy wait times.
